More information about Dr. David R. Boschken

Step 1: Initial visit with Dr. David R. Boschken

He will take x-rays, photos & digital scans of your teeth. Then send a detailed RX that will help setup your individual case. Unlike many other orthodontists who send patients to a 3rd party for scanning, Dr. Boschken does his scanning in-house. Click here for more information about Digital Scanning.

Step 2: Invisalign® makes your aligners

Invisalign® uses advanced 3-D computer imaging technology to transform your digital scans into a custom-made series of clear and removable aligners. There may be as many as 48 in the series or as few as 12, depending on your individual treatment plan.

Step 3: You wear your aligners

Dr. David R. Boschken will give you several sets of aligners that will be worn 20 hrs/day and switched out into a new set every week.

Step 4: You’ve finished treatment!

We will manufacture upper and lower retainers that should be worn at night to maintain the position of your teeth. Dr. Boschken recommends wearing a retainer for the lifetime of your beautiful smile.

Invisalign® Patient Example

You will have the opportunity to view your treatment animation (like the one on this page) BEFORE your aligners are created. This allows you to see how your teeth will move over time during the course of your Invisalign® treatment.

Extreme Crowding

This patient went to 10 other orthodontists in the Bay Area who said his problems could not be fixed with Invisalign® alone. His chief concern was the protruding upper canines. The other orthodontists wanted to pull teeth. But Dr. David R. Boschken was able to bring the teeth into perfect alignment – without pulling teeth.

SPACING

Gaps between teeth can occur with abnormal continued growth of the jawbone. Missing teeth can also cause the surrounding teeth to shift due to the extra space, creating gaps in your teeth. Spacing issues and gaps between teeth can lead to gum problems (due to lack of protection by the teeth), periodontal pockets and increased risk of periodontal disease.

UNDERBITE

Underbite can occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems.

OVERBITE

Overbite occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. It’s typically caused by genetics, bad oral habits, or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. This can lead to gum problems or irritation, and/or wear on the lower teeth, and can cause painful jaw and joint problems.

CROSSBITE

Crossbite can occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss.

CROWDING

Teeth crowding occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overly crowded teeth can get worse over time, and result in severely crooked teeth. This crowding can lead to plaque accumulation, tooth decay and an increased chance of gum disease.

OPEN BITE

Open bite often occurs when some teeth are unable to make physical contact with the opposing teeth for a proper bite. Most often caused by a genetic abnormal jaw structure or excessive thumb-sucking, an open bite can cause poor or painful chewing, and even speech impairment. It can also lead to greater issues like thermo-mandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® uses a series of nearly undetectable aligners instead of brackets and wires. So it’s really hard for people to tell you’re wearing Invisalign® even up close. Because there are no metal wires and brackets. Invisalign® is comfortable. And because it’s removable, eating, brushing and flossing are no problem. You can still enjoy your favorite foods and smile without holding back. With Invisalign®, there is nothing to hide.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

The duration of the treatment depends on the severity of your particular case, which determines the number of aligners you need. You’ll wear each aligner for a week. So, generally there may be as many as 60 in the series, or as few as 12.

How often must I wear my aligners?

Invisalign® ONLY works while you are wearing the aligners. We recommend that you wear your aligners full-time, day or night, except to eat, brush and floss your teeth.

Are there restrictions on what I can eat and drink?

In general, no. Unlike traditional orthodontics, you can usually eat and drink whatever you desire, because you remove your aligners. Thus, there is no need to restrict your consumption of any of your favorite foods or snacks.

How often must I see Dr. David R. Boschken?

Dr. David R. Boschken and team will schedule regular appointments – usually about once every 12-14 weeks. This is the only way Dr. David R. Boschken can be sure that the treatment is progressing as planned. Dr. Boschken and his team can also monitor your progress on a weekly basis remotely through use of Invisalign’s HIPPA compliant app Invisalign® Virtual Care.

Will wearing the Invisalign® aligners affect my speech?

Like all orthodontic treatments, aligners may temporarily affect your speech, and you may have a slight lisp for a day or two. However, as your tongue gets used to having aligners in your mouth, any lisp or minor speech impediment caused by the aligners should disappear.

Will treatment be painful?

Most people experience tooth soreness for a few days after starting each new stage. This is normal. It is a sign that the Invisalign® aligners are working – sequentially moving your teeth to their final destination. This soreness should gradually go away a couple days after you insert the new aligner in the series.

Can I afford it?

Dedication means striving to provide a better smile for anyone who wants one. Dr. David R. Boschken offers all the advantages of Invisalign® for about the same cost as traditional metal braces. He can also help you improve your aesthetics and well-being with your choice of payment options:
